John Muir, Earth-Planet, Universe is an outdoor exhibition which opened at the Dunbar Harbour Battery in October 2020. The exhibition is the latest in the series created by the Friends of John Muir’s Birthplace over the years. This one focuses on Muir’s legacy and his role as an environmental activist and campaigner and his relevance for our situation today.
This outdoor installation of the exhibition is a collaboration between Friends of John Muir’s Birthplace, Sustaining Dunbar and Dunbar Harbour Trust. Its content is also available online and can be viewed here.
‘Our aim is that the exhibition sets the scene for a journey of community-led change away from high resource use and high C02 emissions, towards a more resilient community with a diverse and local economy and a vibrant culture with an equitable, sustainable future for all.
We want the exhibition to show how climate change is directly linked to wellbeing, prosperity, fairness and a sense of community – for people here in our area of Dunbar and East Linton and for others across the world. We want to explore how to address the challenge of the climate emergency but not to become fixated on the problems, rather to imagine what kind of future we want.’
The Exhibition Launch will offer you the chance to meet the creators of the exhibition, hear about the process of putting it together and some of the behind the scenes activity around its design, installation and aspirations. You can expect poetry reading, local soundscapes, guest speakers and a Q&A session. Invite your friends and join us for an evening of discussion and celebration!
The exhibition is intended to be a catalyst for a series of events and activities in collaboration with other local groups. We are asking “What If?” questions to spark people’s imaginations for a positive vision for the Dunbar and East Linton ward area in the context of the climate emergency and the need for a just and equitable community that values wellbeing for all.
A rolling programme of online engagement events championed by partner groups from among the What If? network members will commence in late November.
